Oral Care

  • Finding healthier toothpaste has been a real struggle. Some are chalky, too thin, too thick and some are not even a color you might be used to. No matter what form of toothpaste you use, is it healthy? I have researched fluoride, sulfates, baking soda, silica, glycerin and many types of clay. What’s really in our toothpaste should concern us all. Lets embark on this journey together!

Toothpaste

Davids Toothpaste This is my most recent purchase of toothpaste. It scored well on the think dirty app and I purchased this online from Integrity Botanicals. It does have some ingredients that are controversial like: baking soda, silica and stevia. However I wanted to see if I could handle those ingredients because usually I need a toothpaste that is baking soda free and sugar free (even artificial sugar free). To keep you updated, I didn’t have any issues with this toothpaste. David’s toothpaste is similar to Crest’s texture and thickness. Your breath stays fresh just as long.

Redmond Toothpaste - Want to try something really crazy! This natural toothpaste is the color of clay but it’s the toothpaste with the fewest ingredients (6 to be exact). Water, bentonite clay, and sea salt are the base of their toothpaste line. The rest of the ingredients are essential oils if you choose the unsweetened flavors. The wintergreen flavor pictured above contains Xylitol as the sweetener. To be transparent sweet or not all the toothpastes work the same. I don’t mind using this toothpaste but your breath wont stay fresh all day. I would recommend a mouth wash or tablets to offset this. But otherwise this is a super basic natural toothpaste that’s affordable.

Dessert Essence - I actually didn’t mind dessert essences toothpaste in Coconut Mint. However they use coconut sulfate to replace sulfate but its still controversial in regards to natural.

Miessence Toothpaste- This was my very first natural toothpaste. Mint flavor of course because that’s similar to the toxic ones. This toothpaste was expensive and was very salty. Yes I said salty! It was not thick in texture and the freshness doesn’t last all day. It didn’t work for me but when your first starting out there is room for improvement.

Mouthwash

Essential Oxygen Organic Brushing Rinse- I purchased the peppermint version from Thrive Market in the 10oz bottle as well as the 3oz bottle for traveling. For anyone in Canada here is the link to well.ca because thrive market doesn’t ship to Canada.

Desert Essence- Finding a healthier mouthwash alternative is not easy. The coconut mint mouthwash from desert essence contains essential oil to freshen your breath. Even with the use of essential oils this specific mouthwash won’t keep your breath fresh all day.
