This all started at Target!

After having a very unpleasant skin reaction from my facial cleanser I had an appointment with a dermatologist where she would walk me through a few brochures on what was going on. Instead of taking the prescription and the topical cream the dermatologist recommended, I chose to fix my skin naturally. NO MORE TOXIC INGREDIENTS!

So naturally I left the dermatologists office and headed straight to Target because this is everyone’s sanctuary! I needed a fresh start and went shopping! While roaming the natural beauty department I was literally reading every label and trying to find products that wouldn’t repeat this very painful and irritated skin problem. After about an hour I soon found S.W. Basics starter kit and Juice Beauty’s Shampoo and Conditioner.

As my husband and I were heading home I expressed my overwhelming concerns about not finding everything allergy friendly at Target. *(I never knew that finding makeup and skincare products would be so hard with allergies. Apparently this is a real problem that the beauty industry is not catering to). He replied and said I should create an app. I laughed sarcastically and replied I have no idea how to create an app! In shock because I love him for thinking, I can do anything! I just wanted to find an app to instantly help me become a clean beauty consumer with allergies! Within a few minutes I was able to find an app that would change my life and here I am writing about it.

I downloaded the app called “Think Dirty”. I scanned over 200 products in the first night! My score was extremely high with a of 7 out of 10 which is very bad. The Think Dirty App has been a very vital part of this clean beauty journey and I can proudly say my current score is a 0 as of May 2020!!!!

Troubleshooting the Think Dirty App

  • Once you download the app you can scan product barcodes or type the SKU. You could also narrow down your search even further by each looking up products per category.

  • If your product is not found, then you can add new products by submitting a front and back photo of that product for the company to review. After the product is reviewed (this is not an instant turn around) the company will send you a notification of the new updated score.

  • This app is a good starting point however don’t take the scores too seriously. The app automatically scores certain products lower or higher depending on fragrance or compromising ingredients that are not yet scored individually.

  • The Think Dirty community is very responsive on Instagram and if you need help reach out to them because they will quickly respond.
